A lot of us have been in a mental loop of trying to figure out what’s next in life. Sometimes, it’s difficult to recognize when we must take a leap of faith and shake things up a bit. I’m all for being comfortable in life, but when things get too comfortable, maybe it’s time to make a change. For me, I’ve been in the same city for over 3 years now. Long story short, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my time here. However, lately I’ve been feeling an urge to move on. I never anticipated how much I’d like my city and definitely didn’t anticipate living here for 3 years. So, I would say I’ve milked as many great experiences as I can out of this city and I’m ready to take the next leap of faith.
I’ve been very cautious of the dangers of being too comfortable. This is as much of a threat to our wellbeing as being too stressed out. Comfort is great, but too much can backfire. Here’s what I mean by being too comfortable. I mean not being challenged enough. I mean not trying new experiences. Not getting nervous about a new environment. Not meeting new people. Not going to new places. For some people, they welcome comfort like an old friend. They prefer to do the same thing day in and day out. If you’re one of those people, then good for you. There’s nothing wrong with it. In fact, I see myself settling down with that mindset when I’m in my twilight years. However, while I’m young I want to experience all of life that I can.
I have an urge to shake things up a bit. My job is fantastic. My side businesses are keeping me busy. I have great friends. But there still is an urge to get out and grow. Growth stems from challenging times. And I don’t feel like I’m being challenged enough where I’m currently at. This isn’t about work. This is about wanting new experiences and a new city to conquer.
Look for the signs that may tell you that you’re too comfortable with your current situation. Have you become lazy? Do you go to the same places every weekend? Have you recently gone through a bad breakup? Have you recently been let go by your work? Have your friends moved away? Are you running out of adventures to go on? In fact, all of these questions can be summed up in just one word. Enthusiasm. Are you enthusiastic about life and your city at the moment? If you’re not, maybe it’s time to add a little more challenge in life and make a change. A change in setting can go a long way. And it’s one of the best ways to grow as a person and bring on new experiences.
